ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. – Three student-athletes have signed National Letters of Intent to play golf a Flagler College as announced by director of golf Santiago Cavanagh this afternoon. They will join the teams in the fall of 2015.
Lara Ardler (Bremen, Germany/Oberschule an der Ronzelestraße) and Miranda Greene (Bellbrook, Ohio/Bellbrook HS) will join the women’s team next fall while Juan Iturra (Bahía Blanca, Argentina/Don Bosco School) will join the men’s team.
Ardler helped lead her team to a first-place finish at the German Under-18 Championships and helped the team to a 10th place finish at the German Team Championships. She plans on majoring in business administration.
“Lara is one of the best German junior players and has a lot of international experience,” said Cavanagh. “She is a great addition to our 2015 class.”
Greene comes to Flagler after having played all four years on the Bellbrook High boys’ golf team. She was the district medalist after shooting an even par 72 this past fall.
Greene has had 32 first-place finishes in various Southern Ohio PGA summer tournaments from 2011-14. She was also selected as the SOPGA Player of the Year three times. Greene plans on majoring in sport management and education at Flagler.
“Miranda will be a great addition to our team next year,” said Cavanagh. “She brings an excellent golf game and a coachable attitude which will help her excel right away.”
Iturra has already made a mark in northeast Florida when he won the First Coast Junior Open by two strokes last summer at the Jacksonville Golf & Country Club with a 149. He finished in second place at the Optimist Golf World Cup in Palm Beach. Iturra is the top ranked Under-18 player by the Federación Regional de Golf del Sur (FRGS). He plans on majoring in business administration.
“Juani is a solid and experienced player,” said Cavanagh. “He will make an impact on the team from day one.”
The men’s golf team starts their spring season Feb. 16-17 at the Newberry College Invitational and the women open Feb. 8-9 as they host the World Golf Invitational at the Slammer & Squire Course.
